Best Books To Give High School Graduates and College Students

During high school, forced reading creates an aversion in many young adults. This is such a sad phenomena and one that I fell victim to. I never realized how much I loved reading until after high school.

Once I was freed from the monthly required literature, I pursued topics that interested me (mainly self improvement). Certain books completely transformed my life and taught me the strategies I needed for massive success in both academics and my everyday life.

If you recently graduated from high school or you’re a parent of a young adult, these books are incredible investments for the development and life success of any individual.

Here are seven books that every high school graduate (and most anyone) should read! They changed my life and hopefully you will love them as much as I have!

How To Win Friends and Influence People

This is an incredible book by Dale Carnegie that has helped thousands of people to find more success within their life. Personally, this book helped me to gain large amount of friends, communicate more effectively, and have success in a wonderful relationship. It taught me how to find compromise between people of opposing thoughts.

By learning keys to being a better person in society and on my college campus, I became a magnet for positive people and experiences. It is not a long read and is well worth the small amount of time!

Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity, by David Allen

If you suffer from disorganization or procrastination, this book is for you! The strategies taught in this book will help you to get more done in the same amount of time with less effort!

After reading this book, I changed my room and study area in my apartment, began prioritizing tasks in an effective way, and learned to defeat procrastination! My academic flow became effortless and I had more free time because I completed assignments early! This book gave me more time to enjoy the experiences that college had to offer!

The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business

This book is scary, but awesome. In fact, it is scary awesome.

In this book you will not only learn how you operate and make choices in everyday life, but also how businesses and advertising have influenced you to operate and make choices.

Knowing how to set healthy and effective habits will pay dividends to your job, your wallet, and your personal relationships. This book will show you how you can consistently make better choices and choose better courses of action when you make decisions. I created habits such as daily exercise and “journaling” that have helped me to stay focused and stress free!

The Naked Roommate: And 107 Other Issues You Might Run Into in College

After that entertaining name, I know you’re intrigued!

My grandmother actually sent me this book, and I about fell over laughing. Little did I know that it would actually be extremely helpful! This book delves into the many problems you could face while in college that no one seems to talk about (except maybe me talking about the solutions throughout this site).

This can be a quick reference guide when things suddenly go wrong.

Tools of Titans (And Any Other Book By Tim Ferriss)

I had the pleasure of borrowing this book from my supervisor during an internship my senior year. Almost every other page has a different highly-successful person that the writer interviewed and recorded their personal life hacks that helped them to get where they are today.

There are countless tips from many movie stars, billionaires, motivational speakers, athletes and many others! Dividing into three sections, (Health, Wealth, and Wisdom), there is no shortage of helpful advice. I found nutritional hacks, daily routine tweaks, and inspiration that led to me taking on new life challenges such as writing a book, creating this website, and starting a YouTube channel!

It is very large but is meant to be a fun and helpful reference guide. You can jump around and read whatever you like, and Tim Ferriss outlines this in the beginning where he tells you how to read his book.

Other awesome books by Tim that I loved are the 4-Hour Body and the 4-Hour Work Week!

Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins

If you haven’t had the pleasure of listening to or watching Tony Robbins, I am so glad you are reading this now!

Tony Robbins is one of the greatest motivational speakers and life-changers on the planet. In this book, (he has some others), he explains how you can take control of different aspects of your life and awaken your inner passion or drive that will carry you through adversity to achieve massive success!

Tony is known for being blunt at times and using some intense methods to get his point across, but this book will change your life if you read it. There are some hard truths within but it is so worth it to reach your true potential in life.

You owe it to yourself to read this book and see what you are capable of!

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven Covey

This book outlines seven core principles that when adopted and implemented, create much higher value and success in a person’s life!

It is similar to Dale Carnegie’s book above, but comes at a much different angle. This book is incredible for increasing success in business, sales and any endeavor where you interact with other people!

I have been much happier with my social interactions after reading this book because it has helped me to actually listen and be able to create “win-win” situations for people (one of the many amazing takeaways).

Reading and Learning is What Successful People Do!

If you or someone you know has ever asked how certain people get so successful and why they have not (or can not), these books are part of the formula. There is no big secret to getting rich, getting in shape or being highly successful in every endeavor. You can replicate the actions of individuals who have already accomplished these feats and achieve the same thing.

The key is to read books and absorb knowledge! These books are some of the best for increasing productivity, happiness and becoming highly successful!

If there are some books I missed that you feel would also be helpful, please leave them in the comments below for other readers to look into!
